Banfield Pet Hospital
As one of my main clients for a few years I worked on quite a few initiatives for Banfield Pet Hospital. As a pet care provider Banfield’s needs on their site were primarily twofold - education, both pet owners and vets, and providing care for pets. While many of these initiatives were primarily for their main dot com, my work over the years also included apps, 360 video and custom viewers, tradeshow touchscreens, and more.

Homepage Redesign
The main goal for this redesign was for it to be unique to the user. We wanted this homepage to feature content customized to the user and their pets.
With that in mind we designed out modules for specific content a user would need if coming to Banfield.com When is my next appointment? What medication did Mr. Bojangles have recently refilled? When is my next payment due for my pet’s Wellness Plan?
Article Hub
A repository of articles about preventative care, pet conditions, or general questions for taking care of your pet.
Designed to let the user find content based on their need. Whether through search, browsing categories, or by being show some curated, suggested articles.
Derm Hub
Every year the collective board of senior vets at Banfield pick a topic or issue of pet health to focus on. Derm Hub was one of those initiatives, focusing on the skin health of pets. The goal of this hub was to give the user general guidelines on what to watch out for and to better be proactive about their pet’s skin.
With that in mind I designed a simple look at some of the issues and signs of bad skin for pets. I was able to illustrate and animate, decidedly simple illustrations so as not to be too graphic, these common skin issues. In addition to just educating the user we made it so they could add items of concern, along with possible treatments to a checklist to ask their vet.
Appointment Scheduler
Occasionally you need to take your pet into to see the vet outside of their usual check-ups. Previous to this tool, this was done by a phone to the local office.
The scheduler was designed to make setting up an appointment easier by allowing you to see available times and doctors and select your preference. Consideration was given to scenarios where there are multiple pets tied to the account owner, new users, different appointment types (drop-off vs in-office), and non standard locations, along with appointment reminders and cancellations.
Re-fur A Friend
Banfield wanted to launch a referral program and needed naming and branding, the program ecosystem, and other details figured out.
We landed on Re-fur A Friend, puns are just great aren’t they, and I designed a logo, along with a landing page and accompanying emails.
Wellness Indicator
Many of Banfield’s customers have what’s called an Optimum Wellness Plan. It works in a way as a subscription of pet health care services. Things like check-ups, and vaccinations are included in the various plans.
The Wellness Indicator essentially is a dashboard of your pet’s health. Showing the user their pet’s health broken down into easily discernible categories. Categories like - Comprehensive Exams, Vaccinations, Flea, and Tick Treatments. These show and keep track of visits to the vet and when these services were last done. It also keeps track and charts your pet’s growth. But more than just keeping track it lets the owner take action, whether that is scheduling a visit, leaving a note for the vet, setting a reminder, or learning more about the issue.
National Vet Conference Support Materials
Each year Banfield Pet Hospital has a large booth at the national veterinary conference, known as NAVC.
To support their presence at the conference we designed a touchscreen experience that highlighted the State of Pet Health Report, featured some of their doctors, and showed off some Banfield’s charity iniatives. I even made some Snapchat filters that were geofenced for those attending the conference.
